Leah Williamson was quick to thank Stina Blackstenius and Beth Mead as our super substitutes combined to score the winner in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.
“I thanked them both, they made my dreams come true,” she said.
“I’m very, very happy. We saw what Barca were good at and we said we'd respect it and we did. We just knew what we had to do to be winners and we did it. Nobody would put a foot wrong.
“When we had the time, the goal, the passage of play to the corner, we played some lovely football. So I think I'm just very proud to be Arsenal today.”
Asked if she always believed we’d go all the way in this competition given all the comebacks we’ve completed in 2024/25, she added: “I did. And not many other people did, which fuelled our belief. And that's totally fair, anyway.
“But we knew that we were the underdogs and it's rare that you get to play in a game when there's so little pressure on you. So we just went out and we said we were going to enjoy it and I'm going to enjoy it tonight now.”
Speaking to TNT Sports, Leah added: “There's a lot of this team that have been together for a really long time, and working really, really hard to get to the next level, and being able to do it on the biggest day. I think some people just had the game of their lives, and that's what you need, and we did it. I'm just so happy.
“We changed the game plan a little bit in the week, because we wanted to feel more comfortable, and that paid off. But I think in the first half we had chances, and I don't think people believed how good they were, so we were wasting them. We said, second half, we just need one chance, and Stina took it.”
